Syttende Mai

Syttende Mai is Norways Independence day and of course we are in the USA and not in Norway, but our little town has a lot of norwegian heritage. The Festival goes from friday to Saturday and on the Saturday there is a "big" parade. Big compared to the size of the town. So I'll just start with friday.

On Friday there was a banquet at the fest building. They had food and our choir was singing. Later they announced the new Queen and Miss candidates for this year. After the crowning everybody could take Pictures etc.
I was a helper, which means I cleaned up the tables when people were done eating and I got rid of the trash later. It was pretty fun and I also got in for free and I got free food, so it's not too bad.

On Saturday there was the parade and when everybody comes out, it actually seems like there are a lot of people living in this town, which is nice. So I was at Frida's house the whole weekend and we went to town at like 10.30 to visit Lee our Area representative, because he volunteers for everything, especially when it's something about Norway. After an hour we went back to her house and took a nap. At around 1.30 the parade started, but no we didn't just watch it, we were in it. I was on the norwegian float pretending I am a norwegian. It was a good experience, though. When we were done we watched the end of the parade and then went home for a little while. A friend of mine picked us up and we all went to a basketball tournament. It was really American. Just like in a movie.
In the evening we went to some friends and had a bonfire.

On Sunday I went with two frieds shopping and I know this doesn't sound interesting, but it got interesting when the car stopped moving in the middle of the street. We could still pull over on time, before it was gone forever. We were right at a flower garden or something like that, but it looked really charming and the sun was shining so we sat down and waited for her Dad to pick us up. It was definetly an adventure.

Yeah, that's how it goes.

At least this kitty entertained us while we were waiting
